NATIONAL CENTRE OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH “DEMOKRITOS”

Founded in July 1961 as a Research Centre for Nuclear Research, NCSR “Demokritos” (NCSRD) is today the largest multidisciplinary Research Centre of Greece with approximately 180 Researchers in tenured and tenure-track positions and over 500 Research Personnel working in projects funded mainly by grants from State Funds, the European Union and Private Industries. The Centre consists of five independent Institutes focusing on different scientific fields. It is governed by the Board of Directors and is supervised by the General Secretariat of Research and Innovation, which is in the Ministry of Development & Investments.

INSTITUTE OF COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS

The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a non-profit Academic Research Body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education. In FP7 ICCS ranked in the 19th position with respect to funding among all European research establishments, companies and universities. Together with NTUA (its academic branch), it ranked in the 12th position. The aim of ICCS is to carry out research and development activities in the fields of all diverse aspects of telecommunications and computer systems, as well as their application in a variety of areas. The personnel of ICCS include more than 500 research associate scientists. ICCS aims to remain ahead of the wave of change in ICT by cooperating with industry and academia in highly distributed systems, energy management, machine learning, secure data and communication networks, context-awareness and data mining related projects.

The Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt – FFI) is the prime institution responsible for defence-related research in Norway. The Establishment is the chief adviser on defence-related science and technology to the Ministry of Defence and the Norwegian Armed Forces’ military organization. The demand for expert and flexible armed forces requires continuous renewal and Norway’s unflagging emphasize on defence technology keeps FFI busy. It is a true challenge to make significant contributions to the development of the Armed Forces – both in its principal national defence role as well as in its various roles as an effective participant in international security operations. Relevant defence research now requires international cooperation. In order to maintain a position at the forefront of science and technology within chosen sectors, FFI collaborates with national and international scientific institutions and industry. The Establishment also has a close working relationship with its partners and customers.
